A well-known local musician didn't plan on putting her face on a dating website anytime soon, but she was shocked to see that someone else had.
Colleen Power couldn't believe it when friends sent her a link to a popular online dating site where someone had used her photos for a profile.

I was shocked, then I was mad and then, after a couple hours came around, I started laughing at it.- Colleen Power
'A friend of mine emailed me a link on Facebook and asked me if I had moved to Bay Roberts and I said, 'No',' she said.
She said contacting someone from the website Plenty of Fish (POF) proved difficult without registering for an online profile.'When I looked at the site, it had three of my pictures on the page.'
'I couldn't get anywhere with it, they wouldn't take it down — no one would get back to me,' she said.
'I was shocked, then I was mad and then after a couple hours came around I started laughing at it.'
Taking matters into her own hands
She figured that because her photos were professionally taken and copyrighted, she had a case with the site when it came to getting them removed.

Eventually, she took matters into her own hands and created a fake profile — to try and strike up conversation with the imposter and get some information. She also got friends with accounts to report the fake profile to the site administrators.
Eventually it worked, and the profile was removed from the site.
Power said she's heard of other people being targets of the same thing, and some have told her it may be part of a phishing scam.
'Somebody told me that it's called catfishing or something,' she said.
'They make a profile, they try to attract people — try to start to get to know them, and then eventually they will ask for money for a plane ticket or something like that.'
In her case, the profile created by the fraudster bore little resemblance to the real Colleen Power.
'They said I loved snowmobiling, that I was a homebody,' she laughed.
'All of the details were the opposite of me, pretty much.'
